KISHO: OPTIMAL BEADING AND SHEETING THROUGH A
CONTACT ANGLE OF 110°

Kisho’s ceramic coating is a dynamic interaction between a liquid droplet (water) and a surface (the paintwork).
Water molecules naturally want to form hydrogen bonds with each other and produce a force that shrinks the surface as much as possible. This force is called “high surface tension”. They form a strong membrane that creates the round shape of a drop of water, whereby the droplet wants to keep the surface area as small as possible. The trick is to get small, round balls of water on the car paint that will bubble off.
On the other hand, you are looking for a smooth coating with a ‘low surface energy’ that repels water molecules (hydrophobic) and has smooth and elastic properties to which organisms cannot easily adhere. The smoother and flatter the surface, the better the beading. This is why claying and polishing can make a lot of difference here.
Because Kisho coating creates a big difference in high surface tension (water droplets) and low surface energy (polished and clayed paintwork), water cannot find a hold and rolls/slides off the car.
The surface energy of the lacquer layer, after application of the coating, is very low, while the surface tension of the water droplets is quite high. As a result, the water molecules pull on themselves harder than the now smooth paint layer pulls on these water molecules. As a result, the water droplet easily slides off your paint, attracts other molecules (including additional dust and dirt) as it slides, giving it a self-cleaning effect. The so-called sheeting.
A clear example of such a superhydrophobic surface is the lotus flower. The leaves of this flower make a contact angle of more than 150° with the water drop, so that the drops fall off easily.
If the contact angle of the water droplet is less than 90°, we speak of a lot of wetting and the droplet will spread over the painted surface as an even film. At a contact angle higher than 90° there is little or no wetting. On the contrary, bulging droplets will form that will start to bubble off.
Kisho’s contact angle of 110° for the HydroGloss-90 and DarkShine-81 can be called extremely high.
